In an effort to say thank you to the men and women who have fought for the United States, a Veterans Day parade is being planned this year in St. Cloud.
The parade will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 and will go through the St. Cloud VA Medical Center’s grounds and end at Apollo High School. An informal reception will follow at the school, where residents and veterans can mingle over refreshments. Parade organizer Mike McDonald said he hopes there will be a strong showing of veterans at the event. McDonald, who is a Vietnam War veteran, says the event is important to him because it gives the community a chance to show its thanks. |

CAMP RIPLEY — Special deer hunts for military members and veterans are being held this week at Camp Ripley.
Tuesday through Thursday veterans will participate in either the 16th annual physically disabled veterans' deer hunt on the Ripley deployed soldiers archery hunt, now in its second year.
Disabled veterans between the ages of 25 and 94 from around Minnesota will participate in the physically disabled veterans hunt. About 25 of the 60 participants will be hunting from wheelchairs.
About 80 Minnesota National Guard soldiers who have been deployed since Sept. 11, 2001, will participate in the archery hunt.
This year's archery hunt is in memory of Sgt. Corey Rystad of Red Lake Falls, who was killed by an improvised explosive device near Fallujah, Iraq, in December.
Sponsoring the events are the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, Minnesota National Guard, Minnesota American Legions, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paralyzed Veterans of America and their respective auxiliaries. |

This is their main fundraiser fo the year. So far they have raised over $49,000.00. The VFW Granite Post 428 donated the use of tables and chairs for the event. |
