CAMP RIPLEY — Special deer hunts for military members and veterans are being held this week at Camp Ripley.

Tuesday through Thursday veterans will participate in either the 16th annual physically disabled veterans' deer hunt on the Ripley deployed soldiers archery hunt, now in its second year.

Disabled veterans between the ages of 25 and 94 from around Minnesota will participate in the physically disabled veterans hunt. About 25 of the 60 participants will be hunting from wheelchairs.

About 80 Minnesota National Guard soldiers who have been deployed since Sept. 11, 2001, will participate in the archery hunt.

This year's archery hunt is in memory of Sgt. Corey Rystad of Red Lake Falls, who was killed by an improvised explosive device near Fallujah, Iraq, in December.

Sponsoring the events are the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, Minnesota National Guard, Minnesota American Legions, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paralyzed Veterans of America and their respective auxiliaries.
